The conception of Horse Resource came from my frustration after numerous
tries of finding horse related businesses all under one “roof”.
I did not want to spend hours after hours of mindless searching
the web. I could not believe that in the year 2003 and how pertinent
the internet has become in our daily lives that this concept was
no where to be found. Until now!
We, and I’m talking about the entire horse community, are
as a whole, very resourceful people. I wanted to find exactly what
I
was looking for, in my own state, in a decent amount of time. I did
not want to spend all my spare time surfing the web under very broad
search categories. I wanted to spend my time with my horses! Alas,
my dream of all equine information gathered under one site, listed
by state, had begun. My hopes are that you, as a resourceful horse
person yourself, find this site very useful.
My love of horses started at a very young age. I still remember the
day my father unloaded my first pony, Flicka. I was 4 years old.
In my eyes, Flicka was the most beautiful horse there ever was. Little
did I know, from that moment a serious addiction and deep profound
love of all horses had begun. I can’t begin to describe my
relationship with this special little pony. If you’ve ever
owned a horse like this, you know what I mean. I spent each and every
day riding Flicka. We rode everywhere! Most kids had bikes, I had
Flicka. Every time I think of her, my mind is flooded with fond memories.
On top of the lime pile out in the hayfield, I was the Lone Ranger
and Flicka was my Silver. We would spend countless hours rounding
up the dairy cattle out in the pasture. We rode numerous miles up
and down our tiny dirt roads. I even took Flicka fishing! She would
wait patiently on the side of the bridge while I fished with a tree
branch and peanut butter. Flicka taught me many valuable lessons.
First and foremost, she taught me how to be a good rider. If I slipped
in my riding skills, she would promptly correct me with a good buck.
I could go on and on about how my pony, Flicka, has influenced my
life with horses. My childhood was magical with her. Each Christmas
I would receive a very special gift, a Breyer horse. Every Christmas
morning, I would run down the stairs and search through the presents
for the one box that I thought would be a Breyer. My Breyer collection
still stands proudly on my shelves today. Yes, I was a horse crazy
little girl. I was the girl that wanted nothing to do with dresses
and ribbons in my hair. The only outfit I cared to wear was a cowboy
hat and cowboy boots. That hasn’t changed.
Now, I have 28 years horse experience under my holster. I’m
the only one in my family who has this horse craziness. I currently
own 5 horses of my own. As I look back through my experiences with
horses, I don’t believe I taught them anything. The horses
are the real teachers. Out of all the horses that have come and gone
in my life, my first pony Flicka remains my greatest teacher, and
I would like to thank her for that.
I hope you enjoy this site and find it to be very informative so
that you may spend your spare time with your Flicka.
